Abstract

The book under review, Jo Dekha, Likha (loosely translated: Written, exactly what I have seen), is a collection of essays by Professor Dr Waqar Ahmed Zuberi who passed away in July this year. The book has four sections which include Urdu essays on science, personalities, literature, and miscellaneous. The section on science is replete with many interesting and informative essays, showing his innate interest in the field. The publisher Bazm-e Science Adab, Karachi was duly attracted to print the text. The writer was also its member and had long association with it. Many of its essays were read out in its regular monthly sittings held for decades in Karachi. The section on personalities shared his rich memories ranging from his family members to many professionals whom he met during his formative years and professional life. This section also evidences how he was gifted with writing lucid Urdu prose. The section on literature has many good essays on books and literary personalities. The writer and poets include Inayat Ali Khan, Nasir Shahzad, Aijaz Rehmani, Rehman Khawar, Yonus Ramz, Shaheen Habib, Rehman Kiyani, Zafar Muhammad Khan, Naeem Siddiqui and Shagufta Anjum. Its miscellaneous section is brief but sheds light on some of the burning issues of our society. Here in one of his articles, Professor Zuberi has rightly pointed out that only inspiring teacher can bring a positive and lasting change.
